Needs: Road bike (Required) Endurance cycling experience (Required) Group riding experience (Preferred) This is the “generic” training program that I developed in 2001 that I continue to follow. Prior to the training program a regular fitness program is a must to stay in good shape. The following training program begins 8 weeks prior to the ride and each cyclists joining the ride will get a copy of the actual program for that year. This simply gives you an idea of the mileage and how it is broken down throughout the week.
Total Mileage 125-140 M 160-170 M 135-150 M 170-185 M 135-150 M 185-195 M 135-150 M 95-115 M
Generally I plan one longer ride during mid-week (~30-50 miles) and then saves the longer rides for the weekends. The remaining days I ride anywhere from 15-25 miles and am on the bike a minimum of 5 days/week. Some group rides will be scheduled for the longer rides—once a cyclist signs up for the ROL that information will be sent to you by mail or via email along with a detailed training program to help you plan your training.
Training for the Ride of Love is a commitment in and of itself but to be able to do this ride it is a MUST!! Train on varying terrain (more hills than flat) and ride with others, both of these things will help you get better prepared for the ROL. |
